Spring Pond Clean Out Detail 

Getting a spring pond cleaning is an important step in regaining your pond’s beauty and functionality after the winter season.

A pond aerator is installed to maintain oxygen levels and prevent stagnation. Whatever the size of your pond, our trained technicians will maintain it properly so you can enjoy it to the fullest. 

We at Proud Ponds, will take the necessary steps to ensure that your water feature is maintained to the highest standards. These steps include:  

  • Remove the water from the pond 
  • Remove fish gently and place them in large containers with the original pond water 
  • Water wash pond, stream/waterfall 
  • Remove debris from the bottom of the pond 
  • If necessary, clean all filter pads, the skimmer, and the pump 
  • The waterfall filter will be completely drained and vacuumed 
  • Check the flow of pumps 
  • If necessary, make minor adjustments to rocks 
  • Add dechlorinator and begin filling the pond 
  • Reintroduce fish to the area

  • What should I do with my pond in spring?

    Clean Out Debris From Pond. Begin Water Filtration and Re-Install Pump or Skimmer. 

  • Should I change pond water in spring?

    A spring clean-out is designed to give your pond a fresh start which will translate into clearer water and happy fish. If leaves and debris are minimal from the fall & winter, a quick vacuum and a 20% water change may be enough to get your pond ready for the spring. 

  • When should I turn on my pond pump in the spring?

    If your pump has been off for the winter, spring is the time to start it back up. Most people do this when the water temperature increases to around 50 degrees. 

  • When should I start feeding my fish in spring?

    We recommend commencing feeding at 55 degrees F. Even though the water temp may be ok at 55, we still recommend only feeding once a day and quite possibly a lower protein food.
